Ikebana

Ikebana (生け花, "living flowers") is the Japanese art of flower arrangement, also known as kadō(華道).
It is more than simply putting stems, leaves and flowers in a container. It is unique and is classified as an art form.
It is a disciplined art form in which the arrangement is a living thing where nature and humanity are brought together. The art of ikebana emphasizes creative expression, but does have general rules or guidelines.
Many rules govern the true schools of Ikebana, including dictating the height of the stems, the types of containers, and even the angles at which stems can be placed.
This is because Ikebana is a discipline, historically practiced by the samurai.
Originally, flower arrangement began as a religious procedure for decorating altars.
It was developed into an art of "enjoying the display" in the 16th century by the nobility and samurai.
From the 17th century onward, flower arrangement was popularized amongst common people and even in our modern age, the spirit of enjoying seasonal grass, trees, and of course flowers, continues to bring richness and beauty into the lives of people everywhere.
POINT!
Even though this art has become an obligation for Japanese girls and women, it is not reserved only to them. Most male samurai are masters of ikebana.
There are over 3000 schools of Ikebana today in Japan.
