Shirakawa Village
- Shirakawa Village is located in the northwestern part of Gifu Pref. and is next to Gokayama Village in Toyama pref., and west of the village are the Hakusan Mountains which border Ishikawa Pref. and Gifu Pref.
They are famous for their traditional gassho-zukuri farmouses. Some of those are more than 250 years old. This gassho-zukuri style resembles the hands of Buddhist monks pressed together in prayer.
The architectural style developed over many generations and is designed to withstand the large amounts of heavy snow that falls during the winter.
- POINT!
- The light up in the winter is especially picturesque.
- You can also experience the home stay at the farmhouse which is recommended for tourists to see the traditional life style.
